A man was shot Saturday afternoon at the Samoa Tokelau Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Honolulu, Hawaii after being baptized in a baptism celebration.
The man who was shot, Tali Talitonu, 59 years old had just been baptized and was in a second floor classroom above the courtyard. When shots rang out, an elder located the shooter, grabbed the hand of the woman holding the gun and pointed it away from the victim and the crowd. The elder was identified as 57 year old Tony Williams.
The victim was reportedly taken to the hospital in stable condition.
The suspect, Violesolo Tavita, 59, was arrested and charged with second-degree attempted murder and two weapons charges. Her bail was set at $250,000.
Family members reported the victim and suspect knew one another according to news reports. The suspect is a member of the church, but a motive for the shooting is unknown.
The Star Advertiser reported approximately 100 people were present during the incident and nobody else was injured.
