Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Hundreds of church members leaving Faith Center Church on Sunday witnessed a shooting in the church parking lot about 1:00 P.M. on December 9, 2012.
The church, hosting an outreach event, drew thousands of worshipers this day. As the service ended, and the audience began to exit the church, they heard several shots and saw a man shooting a woman as she sat in her car.
The man then shot himself and died on the scene. The victim, who was accompanied by her 12 year old daughter in the car, was able to drive away from the scene to a safer location where she was assisted by others on the scene.
CBS 4 News, interviewed a witness, Daron Thompson, on the scene, who stated, “I heard what sounded like fireworks going off. They basically told everyone just to go back in to the sanctuary.”
The police department spokesperson, Michelle Eddy, reported “The gunman, possibly an ex-boyfriend, approached the victim in the parking lot and fired several shots at the victim.”
The suspect, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, was identified as Kelvin Adams. The victim, Denise Miller, is being treated at a local hospital with condition unknown.
The investigation continues. While it appears Adams was lying in wait and apparently ambushed Miller, it is unknown whether the church leadership was aware of domestic problems or threats against the victim.
