You are facing the unimaginable, a “Bad Guy” is holding you at gunpoint. You weapon is holstered, if you have one, and you truly believe that he is going to execute you. Do you know what to do?
During my years as a police officer and later as a church security officer, I have been introduced to and trained on many different hand gun disarm techniques. While some are better than others, many are require a high level of skill and practice to master and maintain the technique. Others depend on strength, a problem for smaller or older people.
It is best to choose and practice one style disarm for a specific situation. You can test various methods, but practice one so that it really becomes effective and you build the needed muscle memory to preform it in a high stress situation..
Hopefully you will never have to test out your abilities even if facing a robbery at gunpoint. But if you ever have to face a potential terrorist situation at close range, or someone intent on killing you make sure you have chosen wisely. These techniques are a last resort when you have decided that the gunman will kill you.
Here are a couple of items to think over about disarms:
- If you do not attempt a disarm, will you most likely die?
- Is the technique simple and quick?
- How you practiced until it is second nature to you?
- Does your technique get you out of the line of fire?
- Does the technique require a lot of strength? If the gunman has superior strength you might just get into a wrestling match.
- Does the technique seem to work for you? If it doesn’t, find a different program.
I will be detailing my chosen method in a video we will have in the members section in the near future.
The core of this technique is simplicity.
There are four steps to the process
S – Safe the muzzle – make sure the gun in not pointed at you in case of a discharge
C – Control the weapon – Keep your hands on the weapon
A – Attack the attacker – Explode with all your anger in with a elbow or hnd heel strike
D – Deploy your weapon – Decide if you have control or need to return fire to continue living.
SCAD will work with the gun pointed at your mid section, head, side or back.
If you decide that you must disarm an attacker, speed is critical
This is a last ditch techinque and there is a significent chance that you or someone with you might be injured.
